The Ultimate Challenge

The Dream Team welcomes you to the second UM location in Wanaka New Zealand for our three-day, 515km ultra triathlon on not the biggest, but the most beautiful island nation, Aotearoa. UM New Zealand starts and finishes on the shores of the beautiful Lake Wanaka, within sight of the iconic ‘Wanaka Tree’, giving you 3 days of spectacular scenery as you take on this Ultimate Challenge.

UM New Zealand is divided into four stages over three days, with each day having a 12 hour cut-off. Your training will take you places you’ve never been. The three day event – the distances – will test your physical and mental endurance. Throughout your preparation and execution of UM, you and your family will become part of the TRIbe, a family like no other. You have the dedicated and caring event organising ‘Dream Team’ behind you, plus the support of local businesses, community groups and sponsors. UM is a home grown experience, and everything we do is for our athletes, who put themselves on the line.

Although 2026 brings the first UM New Zealand event, it is backed by 10 amazing years of UM Australia. The first Ultraman distance event was held in Hawaii in 1983. Today, there are numerous Ultraman distance events held worldwide – in Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Florida, Hawaii, Israel and Canada – and more countries are exploring possibilities every year.
